Neverwinter’s Portobello’s Campaign game-within-a-game launches March 31

If you enjoyed last year’s Acquisitions, Inc. live D&D event from PAX Prime 2015, then you’re going to love Cryptic’s latest stunt. It’s called Portobello’s Campaign, and it out-metas the meta, as Neverwinter players will be playing a D&D tabletop inside the MMO.

“Portobello DaVinci now joins Respen Durothil with his own ‘marvelous’ game in Neverwinter’s newest event – Portobello’s Campaign. Chris Perkins, principal story designer for Dungeons & Dragons, joins the cast of Neverwinter as adventurers play through an all-new Dungeons & Dragons tabletop experience inspired by the popular Acquisitions Inc. live games presented by Wizards of the Coast and Penny Arcade. This brand-new event will be available for Neverwinter PC on March 31.”

Mind blown! Cryptic says the month-long event will include a new companion and artifact too. Check out the images and trailer below!

Could they not figure out how to raise the characters a few inches so they didn’t have their feet clip through the little platform thing?

Did they just rip off the old dudes from the Muppets and make them gargoyles?

Man…I don’t know.

Coffee, Please Just FYI… it really has nothing to do with a tabletop game. Imagine more that it’s a standard dungeon, but it’s the aesthetics that change to reflect a D&D map and miniatures.

I will say that when they did the first “D&D inside D&D” thing, I found it immensely entertaining. At one point, the mobs themselves were dice (as the DM “didn’t have enough miniatures”). Definitely one of the more fun dungeons I’ve ever played in an MMO.

As a half Italian half mushroom painter I find this character’s name extremely offensive.

Coffee, Please Previous Respen event had a lvl6 restriction which is basically tutorial + first map (Blacklake district). Then everyone was scaled to lvl30 or was it lvl60…
Anyway it was NW’s best event and Cryptic seems to want to hold up that status quo lol.

Looks like the only thing of interest for me in this entire game.  I still wouldn’t be interested in playing neverwinter just to get access to this little meta game.  But I like the meta game.

Okay sold. Not a fan of cryptic, but love these guys and always enjoy their broadcasts.
Is there a level requirement for this? Pay to play elements / requirements to do this table top game?
Or will I be able to install the game, do the thing, and then uninstall the game? Because that’s all that I want to do, to be honest.

Sadly the game has taken to pandering the minmaxed whales since the Elemental Evil update.

At that point they reworked the defensive mechanics to make healers/support and tanks more valuable, because said minmaxers were showing off how they could DPS their way through everything with their maxed out enchantments and artifacts.

Sadly this massively shafted everyone that was not already maxed out in the gear department, and who can’t just wave their credit card to get the required astral diamonds and consumables to ensure upgrade success.

End result was that fights for most of the player base went from interesting to a sluggish gauntlet of pain.
