EverQuest announces ‘true box’ progression server

18

These days, EverQuest seems to exist to be a test bed for different progression server concepts. Its community certainly doesn’t tire of starting all over again, which Daybreak is banking on for the launch of the Coirnav progression server on March 16th.

As part of the game’s 19th anniversary, the rollout of Coirnav will give players a slightly different way to experience the game: without multiboxing. This “true box” server only allows one EverQuest account per computer as a way to encourage players to group up with friends instead of relying on armies of alts.

Other rules for this server ruleset including instanced raid bosses, a 12-week cadence of content unlocks, and slightly slower XP rates than most other progression servers. As with all of EverQuest’s progression shards, you’ll have to have a subscription to be able to access Coirnav.

But you’re a pinky female gnome!

How does that work?

You mix red pigtails with white ones. <3

So, Harley Quinn?

I was told, the Irish gave the bagpipes to the Scots for a joke and they still haven’t got the joke yet. ! :)

The first reference to bagpipes in the UK was around 1150 and it was Cornwall not Scotland ,Wales or Ireland that got them first if that is anything to go by , but they are thought to have originated in the middle east in about 1000 BC .

I think it’s more of a celtic thing in the UK because all the old celtic nations have their own bagpipes .

*gumble*

This “species” just won’t die out fast enough.

What list of useless facts did you dredge that one up from?

I’d sure as hell love a “truebox” server for eve online. Maybe for whatever replaces it when it dies. Having to run a minimum of 2 accounts to even play the game later on sucks.

For an PVP economy sandbox game like EVE, Daybreak’s implementation of their “true box” server idea would have no affect.

I’m referring more to the bit about not allowing multiboxing. Something that is damn near mandatory in EvE, and strongly encouraged by the devs for more profit.

Is it easy to get into P99?? I think I tried it a long time ago but I can’t remember

Reader
Coldrun ??

Last I checked, you still need that super rare EQ Titanium edition to access it. Everyone on the P99 forums says to pirate it, but I don’t really want to mess with that. I’d probably end up with a load of viruses or whatever, so no P99 for me. :(

Yes, that’s still the case.

I dont even think SoE Daybreak cares if you do this anymore. There haven’t been any viruses on the titanium torrent in all the years I’ve downloaded it for SoD/EQEMU servers

For those not fully aware of the TLP servers and their rules, this will be the third “true box” server and sixth progression TLP server to date (that I know of).

I think the enforced “true box” server rule set was introduced after Ragefire/Lockjaw’s initial population seemed to vastly exceed expectations and the story permeated that multi-boxers were basically camping every worthwhile grouping/camp spot in the early/mid game. I think they dealt with that by allowing more instanced zones of overpopulated areas. The True Box solution did not make it in until about a half a year after Ragefire/Lockjaw.

True box servers are mostly effective, but people with too much platinum and/or real money can still set up a group of their own with multiple PCs and commonly do. You get a tanky character with a fungi (and all the other twink gear) and buff the hell out of them out of party friends/alts and set your extra characters on autofollow or in a safe spot to sit while you play whale disc jockey and autoattack with your tank as enemies melt to the long duration thorns buff you were given.

Seeing it even if only occasionally on the true box severs kinda just makes me want to go back to Project 1999. Only one account per IP is permitted online at a time on P99 and requests for multiple users on an IP can be requested for on the forums. Their volunteer moderators and anti-RMT/boxing tech does more visible work than anything I see Daybreak actively doing.

I still like Daybreak’s TLP and live servers for what they are and don’t mind giving them some money now and then since they are still making content for the game after all these years even if making money with the ancient game has gotten harder and harder.

Nothing new; this is the same ruleset as Phinny.

They could have made a server that release with Kunark unlocked, or one with the FV loot rules, or one without the VP/VT/Emp/etc key quests, but instead they just rerolled Phinny.

Not sure clicking from bags is enough to bring people back to classic for the third, fourth, fifth time.

This sounds like the rule set from the Phinigel server from late 2015, also a “true box” server, so I am not sure where the “test bed” aspect plays into this.

Ah yeah, I skimmed right over that part of Justin’s addition to the info. As far as I can tell this is the same ruleset as Phinigel as well.

I forgive him because MMO jargon is ridiculous enough to keep up with when it is the game you are actively playing.
