Oh, Fallout 76, you have yet to release, but you give those of us on the reporting circuit a true bounty. For one thing, those of us who are reporting on betas (like this column) get to highlight that your testing is set for the end of October! That’s good. For another thing, those of us who enjoy pointing out inconsistencies can snicker a bit at the whole cross-platform play still not being planned even after the evil troll guarding that entrance was revealed to actually just be a surly dude with bad hair. It’s also probably good for people who like post-apocalyptic gaming, to be fair.
Other news has happened this week, though! Of course it has.
- Whether it’s multiplayer or not, Anthem is now in alpha testing, and we’ve been reassured that every part of the game is already up and functioning. Whether or not those are the parts that people want is a different discussion, since most of the internet is still probably wondering how you get to bone someone because it’s a BioWare game and this is why we put up with it.
- The next patch for Star Citizen is not yet playable for everyone, but don’t worry, intrepid leakers have brought out all of the information anyone could want about what it contains. We realize that claiming many Bothans died to bring us this information is crossing the fandom streams, but let’s just assume that many Bothans died in what may have been connected incidents.
- Get your Warface on for Warface early access testing on the Xbox One. It’d be easy to make a joke about how it’s difficult to find a player on that platform not wearing a war face, so instead we’d like to just ask our readers to make their most ridiculous looking “war face” and put pictures in the comments. The winner will look very silly.
- Last but not least, War of Conquest has entered early access on Steam. The title is a bit painfully generic, but let’s note that this is an MMORTS, a criminally underserved genre on non-mobile platforms. Shine on, you conquering diamond.
And below, you’ll enter our eternal list of games in testing. It’s eternal because the list is eternal, not because games are supposed to be on there eternally. If something shouldn’t be on there, please, do let us know down in the comments so we can trim that up.
As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.
