That Fallout 76 speedhack ‘won’t be out until the game launches,’ Bethsoft says

For a while now, it’s been pretty common practice among PC gamers to edit a game’s .ini file in order to make tweaks to settings that may not be available through the in-game options menu. It’s also been pretty well known for some time that doing so in Bethesda games can result in some… interesting effects. For example, players quickly found out that modifying the .ini file to raise the framerate in previous Fallout and Elder Scrolls games would result in the player-character being granted superhuman speed. Since those are single-player games, it’s not really a big deal that players could effectively speedhack by editing the .ini file.

But surely now that Fallout is moving to the multiplayer space with Fallout 76, the devs wouldn’t just leave that in, would they?

Apparently yes, they would. Polygon reports that Reddit user watto33 has posted video demonstrating that with a simple edit of the game’s .ini file, Fallout 76 players can give themselves godlike speed, just like in Bethesda’s single-player titles. Thankfully, the game is currently in closed beta testing, which exists for the exact purpose of uncovering these bugs so that the devs have time to fix them before the game’s launch, and Polygon says that Bethesda has confirmed that they’re aware of the issue, though “a fix won’t be out until the game launches.”
