Sea of Thieves Executive Producer Joe Neate is back again for another developer update video, and this week the focus is on the upcoming PvP Arena mode and the future of the game’s open-world adventure mode.
Right now, one of the team’s primary goals (aside from, of course, continuing development on the upcoming Shrouded Spoils, which is expected to drop sometime this month) is iterating on the PvP Arena to get it to a place where it’s ready for Pioneer testing. There’s no time frame on that right now, but Neate does say that testers should probably expect it to be in a fairly rough state when testing begins, as the devs expect it to take numerous iterations to get everything just right since its competitive focus is a large departure from the emergent, open-world gameplay that has been the game’s specialty thus far.
Neate also talks a bit about the upcoming fourth trading company, the Sea Dogs, and although he doesn’t say a whole lot of any particular substance, he does mention that rising through the ranks with the Sea Dogs will be an additional avenue to becoming a pirate legend, which requires players to reach the max rank with three of the game’s trading companies. Fans will also be pleased to know that there is currently a team working on implementing pets into the game, so perhaps players will soon be able to have their very own pirate parrots (or whatever other critters you may want to keep you company on the high seas). For the full details on these upcoming features and more, you can check out the whole developer update video just below.
