Next month, Star Wars: The Old Republic’s game update 5.10, Jedi Under Siege, will go live, bringing with it a new zone, new quests, and myriad other new features. It will also introduce the Master Mode of the Gods from the Machine operation, which will put even the most inveterate players to the test as they try to conquer some of the most difficult challenges in the game to date. To give some insight into the process of amping up the Gods from the Machine operation to Master Mode difficulty, BioWare has released a short interview with SWTOR Lead Operations Designer Matt Pucevich.

In the interview, Pucevich first provides some background on Gods from the Machine, which “rolled out one boss at a time over the past year,” and discusses how the process of creating the operation’s Master Mode differed from that of originally conceiving the operation and implementing it in the game. Pucevich says, “There’s an undeniably special sort of fun and excitement that comes from trying to conceive of the ‘Final Form,’ so to speak, of a set of encounters with which players are already familiar,” as it allows the devs to experiment with mechanics that “might be too obtuse to a player with zero encounter familiarity” but which “might become feasible for someone who already knows the basic rules.” It’s an interesting peek behind the curtain of SWTOR’s operation development process, so if that sort of thing is up your alley, you can check out the full interview on the game’s official site. And don’t forget to check out our own Larry Everett’s guide to preparing for update 5.10 before it goes live this December.
