The Division 2 encourages players to get greedy with new Dark Zone mechanics

We’re only a couple of months out from the release of Ubisoft’s MMO third-person-shooter The Division 2, which will be bringing with it a whole load of changes to the original game’s formula — not least of all to its high-risk PvPvE Dark Zone content, which happens to be the subject of Arekkz Gaming’s latest preview video. Apparently, The Division 2 will be adding brand-new ways for agents to go rogue. In the original game, rogue status is granted only to players who attack other players within the Dark Zone, with enough transgressions eventually marking the rogue agent as the target of a zone-wide manhunt.

The Division 2, however, will let players go rogue in slightly less confrontational ways through the new Theft and Greed system. Through this system, players can break open chests they don’t have keys for, greedily hoard Dark Zone supply drops — usually communal loot chests — all for themselves, and even steal the loot of downed players, all of which will contribute toward ultimately granting access to the Thieves’ Den, where players may find an NPC willing to provide valuable rewards in exchange for some pilfered goods. Of course, such blatant skullduggery will earn players rogue status, eventually making them the target of a manhunt, so they’ll have to be swift and sneaky if they want to make off with their ill-gotten gains. For a more in-depth explanation of the Theft and Greed system — and to see some fresh gameplay footage from the Dark Zone — be sure to check out the videos from Arekkz Gaming just below.

I honestly really really hope the msq isn’t just a quick level to 30 and a few hours of gameplay…

and will it not be a bunch of premade groups that organise outside the game standing inside the entrances to mow people down like the first games DZ was till people got the message and stopped going in there and they turned on each other?

TLDR. I don’t have friends to play with so I wont play in the DZ.

Could have just led with that. Get your own group and dumpster the other one.

Can’t wait to see how this turns out. I’m banking on a splendid mess for the first..hmmm…5 months before they make it somewhat passable and playable. Any takers on bets?

I am hoping that the lessons learned for Div 1 carry over, but i am thinking more along your lines. Honestly though, for me, if the PvE content and the gun play is good, i will be fine. I barely did DZ in Div 1 for various reasons and it didn’t ruin my experience.

I’m thinking in the same lines as you on this. The first one didn’t really have content I wanted but I hope this one might.

It took me 8 attempts and almost two hours to evacuate a bunch of items from DZ recently + DZ levels and xp are separate from the rest of the game. And best gear drops come from (mostly) PvE events anyway. DZ is just a major wasting of time and/or attraction for a handful of PvPers – yet the devs discuss it like it’s a core gameplay loop. Hopefully, it’s just a phase before actually interesting stuff will come to light closer to release – like PvE and true end-game: fashion.

Its going to be a core gameplay loop in D2 soooo….. better get used to it?

If PvP is going to be the core gameplay then I’ll better stick to less intense games where I actually like core gameplay – already have 7 installed, don’t even have enough time to do dailies in all of them. Including TD1.

This is actually a pretty nice addition, and something which I wish games like ESO have also implemented so, for example, if you steal something from NPCs or other players as a member of Thieves Guild – other players can also hunt you down if you have a bounty on you, same goes if you’re member of Dark Brotherhood. Would’ve made these parts much more interesting (I never bothered to complete Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild questlines in ESO because I got bored of easy grinding).
