Apex Who? Fortwhat? PUBWhere? Forget those amateurs; there’s only one real battle royale game that you should be concerned with, and that’s Tetris 99. No, you’re not hallucinating, though we can’t blame you for thinking so, but it’s true — Nintendo announced it at Nintendo Direct last night, for real.

In one of the most unlikely mashups since that time Scooby-Doo teamed up with the Harlem Globetrotters, Tetris 99 is pretty much exactly what the title suggests: It’s the classic, Soviet-flavored, falling-block puzzle game, but with the twist that each “match” is comprised of 99 players all vying to outlast everyone else and be the last Tetriser Tetrising. If you’ve always thought that what the battle royale genre really needed was fewer guns and more falling tiles of various shapes, then you can pick up the game on Nintendo Switch right now — as long as you’re a Nintendo Switch Online member, that is.
