Warframe explains the end of Alerts and changes to melee

19

Times are a’changing in Warframe in some pretty significant ways once again. New dev updates on the game forums have provided some more insight into the end of Alerts as players know them and the previously promised tweaks to melee.

Hitting things with the various sharp or blunt objects in Warframe will soon feature new adjustments like instantaneous switching between melee and firearms, more directional control for ground slams, and tweaks to combat timing that allows the next move in a melee combo to execute shortly after the player makes quick tactical maneuvers like a dodge or a bullet jump. There will also be automatic blocking when facing an attacking enemy in melee mode, and channeled attacks will be set to your alternate fire button. In short: Be ready to plan your keybinds appropriately.

As for the Alert system, that is being replaced by Nightwave, a pirate radio system broadcast by the Nora Night group. One of the new benefits of this system is the Cred Offerings store, a storefront that lets players use an in-game currency known as Creds to buy a rotating stock of items. Creds can be earned from completing daily and weekly challenges or ranking up with Nightwave instead of praying to the RNG gods. The first Nightwave broadcast, Wolf of Saturn Six, will last for a number of weeks and is due to arrive in-game soon.

There’s a lot to unpack for fans of Warframe, so be sure to check the source links below for all of the full details.

Is a nerfing of melees going to accompany this? There have been rumors of this?

Would they please change the script or add more for veterans of the game? A year into the game and lotus’ (the never ending tutorial woman) script is getting old (so is ordis)

They’re changing a lot about the way melee plays, whether it’ll be a nerf or not is too early to say until we get more details on the later phases of the melee changes.

I’m hoping that a replacement script might be introduced as part of New War or Planes of Duviri, because it’d make sense plotwise.

What they are trying to “fix” with Alerts are the exact thing that makes Alerts great. The only thing wrong with Alerts is that they are irrelevant, meaning the rewards are useless.. if that were fixed. RNG is what makes Warframe great and flat systems are what makes other games dull.

Anyways, about melee changes, will be interesting to see how it will feel.
Does this come with the long awaited damage 3.0 ?
What Warframe need is some progression scaling at the top game, because there is a steep falloff midgame where challenge just stops and become a grind instead of progression challenge – Grind is good and keeps things interesting, but it needs to have a purpose.. aka make you stronger .. aka progression).

“RNG is what makes Warframe great”
I agree.

I found the drop off rather large as well, sure you can run a new frame to up the challenge but i like my main, quite happy only playing her, tweaking her, fashionframe her.

Alerts pretty much become useless to anyone who’s played for a month or two. I think the Elite Alerts were to compensate what you state but not sure it was much of hit? I dunno.

I am interested in what they come up with though, cause all i really do atm is crack relics for when Baro Ki’Teer is in town. I pretty much don’t play unless my ducets drop.

I enjoyed the Elite Alerts / Arbitrations, and they’re a nice challenge, but the reward pool from them is rather limited. There was mention on a past stream that they might become a way to get Archgun Rivens later this year…

Me too, but started having runs where i’m the only one who shows?

Brutal part was i’d nearly pull them off, i’d get so close but never made it always died close to the end, and i checked, i wasn’t set to solo, lol :)

Am not surprised the population fell off once most people got the rewards they wanted, maybe a few more people will do them to get Ayatan Sculptures for the Nightwave challenge?

I’ve rarely had much trouble doing at least 1 round of Survival Arbitration solo, with my super-tanky Inaros build and OP Catchmoon kitgun :)

My only concern about losing alerts is the nitain extract. They’re already rare enough and several frames require them.

lmao. Nice one!

I dunno but we’ll probably be able to buy them now with creds. Which yea i’m not sure about that but we’ll see if it’s a good change or not.

Another great memory of playing, NITAIN!!! alert pops, you could’nt click it fast enough, always watching for them. Now you can just buy them? meh i dunno.

Yeah that may be great for people who can play the game all day long or actually have phone alerts to tell them to jump into the game because the resource they want pops, but it doesn’t work out so well for people with more realistic adult gaming times.

You’ll need to work and do missions to get the cred. It will just no longer be based on being online at the right time. So it’s exactly the same amount of in game work to earn just you don’t have to have your life revolve around the game to get the right resources.

For people with normal adult lifestyles they have a limited amount of time to be able to get on these games. The randomized times you can gather certain resources doesn’t end up working for lots of people.

It works fine for people with less playtime. It just means that you get it slower, as you will catch fewer Nitain alerts in a week.
That kind of mentality you describe where you think you are entitled to everything without putting in effort, is what ruins games.
Hardcore players are willing and able to put in more effort than others, and quality games need to reward them to keep them as customers – If not for these players, you would not have that kind of quality game to play as a casual.. and you would be stuck with mobile crap design.
You are just trying to force your level of commitment onto games, because you are envious of others who can commit to more.
The only thing you get by flattening out reward systems is you remove the excitement of getting something, work work instead of fun fun, but the result is the same – I prefer fun fun every time. I know flat systems are used much these days, but it still suck and kill those games fun factor.

One of the drawbacks with RNG systems is how they affect the outliers – most people with limited play time will get Nitain more slowly, some might have such bad luck that they never see any Nitain alerts at all and so can never build the things they want.

Different people find different types of systems fun, some folks love RNG and some hate it. I certainly didn’t see anything in Mewmew’s post suggesting entitlement to rewards without effort, just a wish to be able to put in the effort reliably rather than randomly.

tbh it screamed “entitlement” (to me anyway). Like really bitter towards peeps with time. On average i get a couple hours a day, more on weekends ofc. Not too long ago, i didn’t play at all for years, had more important things to focus on so i didn’t “try” and fit it in.

Any option is better for people with more time, what is your point? Everyone knows that.

With rng you might get it on the second run and jump up with elated joy, they may take over a week, but when they hit it they’ll be pretty pumped with accomplishment.

With a flat guaranteed rate (YAWN!) they’ll have everything in well under a month where you’ll probably take over a year.

It’s not even out yet so we’ll have to wait and see it in action to really talk about it.

Almost forgot to mention, The Hive Leader’s been making some Warframe vids of the tutorial missions :)

Nora Night group broadcasts have recently been added to the game. To hear them you need to have enabled your scanner in your ship. The change to the alert system is however still to come.

Very nice change, not having to pray to the RNG gods is awesome!

Sometimes though, that’s what keeps you playing. So dunno? Farming has been a big part of that game for me? Juggernaut farming for example, that’s what makes great memories, farming for coin to buy items you normally farmed for? I dunno?

DE always makes good calls though, so not worried.

I’ve reached the point where almost nothing in Alerts is of use to me any more, unless a potato blueprint comes up, so this will give us new stuff to farm for and new story and lore as well :)

Apart from the new story/lore/flavour, probably my favourite bit is earnable inventory slots!

The only aspects I’m not keen on are Nightmare mods becoming even more RNG than they already are (though that’s more than balanced out by Aura mods becoming much less RNG), Kavat genetic codes being a pain to get (especially as they’ve mentioned there are more Kavat breeds in the pipeline), and the potential confusion between “[Season] Creds” and credits.

And hopefully the limited-time rewards will be added to Baro’s rotation after each season expires, as a lot of other limited-time rewards have been, so people who miss it still have some chance to get them?

“this will give us new stuff to farm for and new story and lore as well”

That sounds pretty good actually.
