Roblox grows to 90 million players, does a crossover with WWE for some reason

Sporting a player population that Fortnite and League of Legends could only dream of attaining, global game platform Roblox announced that it has reached 90 million monthly active users. We only assume that world domination is next on the list, as Roblox is offering localization, moderation, and customer support in French and German.

And expect this population to get even larger once WWE fans get wind of a crossover between wrestling and Roblox. From now through May 3rd, players can grab one of four limited-edition WestleMania avatars and various WWE-related cosmetics to enhance their game experience. The WWE lineup here includes Becky Lynch, Xavier Woods, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins. You may be familiar with Xavier Woods as well from his YouTube channel, or maybe just from the time when he and the rest of his team The New Day marched around in Final Fantasy XIV-themed gear.

“Like Roblox, WWE brings a sense of play and fun into millions of people’s lives, and we’re excited to partner with them ahead of this landmark event,” said Roblox CBO Craig Donato. “Picking your avatar on Roblox is one of the many ways players can express themselves creatively, and with these new characters, fans can show their support and play as their favorite superstars.”

Good for them, building and scripting. Nice. Wish I could get over the whole low polygon thing.

I’ll have to check with the Special Correspondent for Roblox with whom I live (a.k.a. my 10-year-old son). :D

Maybe Roblox can take some of that cash, whip up a half baked online store, and start snagging sweet sweet exclusive game distributing rights.

I mean that’s what I’d do if I had a million million dollars.

Well that, and maybe a green dress, but not a real green dress.

The anger over Steam vs. Epic is swiftly becoming one of my new favorite things.

I’m interested to see how it plays out.

Given that I just recently updated several mods to Oblivion and started playing that again, I can’t say this isnt gonna push me to install Epic’s platform but then i suspect I am not the target audience.

I mean i just bought Divinity Original Sin 2 AND Dishonored 2 and haven’t even started playing them yet.

It really does feel like the gaming industry is headed for a crash. Peeps only have so much time and money to spend on games and it seems like the game industry is acting like those things are bottomless.

Also, -1 internet points for not acknowledging Bare Naked Ladies lyrics.

It’s just funny how mad everyone is getting – like they are personally invested in Valve. Epic has to be thinking, “Jesus, this is working out better than expected.” If I were them now is the perfect time to turn up the heat. I have no doubt they are looking forward to finding out a really big exclusive and jumping on that.

Just so our relationship boundaries are set early – It is a safe bet I will never recognize any bare naked ladies lyrics going forward.

Yeah, I’m not sure who folks who care should be mad at. Capitalism requires competition to be healthy (the discussion of whether capitalism is the best system held for another time), so Valve needed competition which they had in the form of GOG, Origins, and a few more I cant remember now.

So Epic is making a play to become another competitor but the way to do it seems really shite to the consumer. So be mad at Epic or be mad at the devs who decided to go ahead and put profits over their fanbase?

I’d say if people voted with their wallets and didn’t buy anymore games from 2k/Gearbox or Obsidian or anyone else who goes this path, that should put and end to what is going on but how likely is that to happen?

End of the day, I’ll go back to Stardew Valley. I got turnips need plantin.

Developers wouldn’t take the deal if they thought they couldn’t make more money at Epic. Epic would be foolish to not offer the deal if they think they can make a play at Valve.

Epic really doesn’t have a history on shitting on their customers. You cannot say that about Valve.

My vote is go for the throat. It isn’t as if I don’t have to use 50 launchers now. Maybe the people it upsets don’t know how to make windows shortcuts.

This seems likely as the anger is at Epic and not the devs. At least looking at the review bombs on Steam. :)

Epic plays the bad guy, wipes the tears from their eyes with their wads of cash, as more cash rains down on them and continues to exclusive games. Devs kinda sit silently in the shadows quietly vacuuming up cash as well.

Again, all this feels like capitalism but some malignant form where customers are abused into a relationship rather than enticed into one.

“Buy from us or you can’t play the newest shiny.”

versus

“Buy from us and you get X,Y, and Z unlike what you get from Valve.”

I suspect Valve is just waiting to watch Epic implode, like the gambler flush with cash, rolling into the casino, throwing cash around like candy. At the end of the night though…

Makes me wonder though if they will let Epic go all in and then drop their take for AAA games from 30 percent to 15 percent.

Epic imploding is less of a possibility than Valve. Remember, Epic still makes games.

Epic successfully fended off Apex/Jugger EA, they have their engine and they have Tencent at their back. The danger is very real for Valve not the other way around imho. That nagging loyalty for Valve will disappear if Epic can put together another hit.

And once Google and Amazon get in 100% the war is on baby! Burn baby burn!

When you think about it, every Roblox game is an exclusive. :D :D :D

Heh, I did, just before I read this! Fun fact, I saw them in the 90’s when the mayor of T.O. wanted to ban them from a Canada day outdoor concert because she thought their name was inappropriate ;)!

Yeah right, because Steam/Valve has never had an exclusive… Except for all games in the following list:

https://steam.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_games_using_Steam_authentication?fbclid=IwAR1tbB8S_-FUWjCap14LBEvYPTsYrGjiZaaD62K39W6A9BRQPlqA9eGdeK4

But hey, the all might Steam can have any exclusive they want, but not you Epic Store, don’t you dare…
