Square-Enix announces its own walk-and-catch Pokemon Go-style game in the form of Dragon Walk

All right!

We don’t really have a name for the genre that Pokemon Go properly belongs to (we’ve been going with MMOARGs), but it’s certainly spawned its share of imitators, and a new one is on its way from Square-Enix. Dragon Walk is a new game based off of the Dragon Quest series, which involves tasking players with walks through a map-based field and doing battle with classic DQ monsters like slimes, skeletons, golems, and so forth.

We should specify that these monsters are ones with immediately recognizable designs from the series history, as “slimes” are not exactly uncommon elsewhere in the history of video games.

The game is planned for beta testing in Japan at some point in 2019; there’s no official release date yet, nor is there any word about it being localized and released elsewhere in the world. Meanwhile, speaking of Pokemon Go, that game is discontinuing support for the Apple Watch starting on July 1st, so you will need to be working on catching everything from just one device from that point onward.
