So, how much do you know about the universe of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds? It’s perfectly valid if your reaction to that question is incredulity that one exists, but we assure you that it does and that it is apparently being expanded. The new studio Striking Distance Studios headed by industry veteran Glen Schofield as CEO is a wholly owned subsidiary of PUBG Corp, and it’s working on a totally new narrative experience set within that universe.
If you’re baffled as to what that means… well, you’ll have to remain baffled, Schofield has stated that he simply can’t say anything more on the topic. Some players are already speculating about story modes, story-based sequels, or entirely new gameplay experiences. Still, if you want some narrative cohesion in your battle royale game, this might be the best way to get it… even though we don’t yet know if this new title will in any way be a battle royale. Life is hilarious.
The only thing I can say now is that I’m not working on a sequel to PUBG, but an original narrative in the PUBG universe.
