WRUP: My fantasy football season results edition

Drafts: Was asked multiple times by the lads whether or not I knew anything about football and repeatedly insisted that I did. My first pick was Terry Crews, at which point I was informed that he no longer plays football and he is an actor. My second pick was Bo Derek, who I was told never played football and is an actress. Someone suggested I might have been thinking of Bo Davis, who is a coach. My third pick was John Madden. At that point I was allowed to simply fill in my sheet in silence, which I filled with the names of the cast of Brooklyn 99.

First week: No one showed up. I called Mike to ask when he was going to arrive and told him that I had picked out my running back’s feats to avoid attacks of opportunity. We got disconnected, so he must have been going through a tunnel. I marked myself down as the winner and texted everyone to that effect.

Second week: This time I was hosting the game at my house. I ordered a platter of wings and when everyone got excited asked them why, because the wings were for me, not them. When they asked why the game wasn’t on, I informed them I didn’t have cable and put on Jerry Maguire. Everyone left five minutes in; I declared this another victory.

Third week: The lads informed me that I had not won two weeks running and that I should stop telling everyone I had. I informed them that clearly I had, because I wrote it down and everything, and Melissa Fumero was about to reach level 5 so she could be a Receiver 4/Soulknife 1. I then declared myself winner that week as well.

Fourth week: I was blocked from the group text at work and no one talked to me about football any more. Mission accomplished, What Are You Playing.

Bonus question: What’s your favorite kind of boat?

Andy McAdams: Just finished up Orsinium in The Elder Scrolls Online, and now I’m moving over to Summerset because being cold in game and cold in real life is just too much cold for me. I might putz around in City of Heroes myself.

Bonus question: Single-person kayaks. None of that 2-man nonsense. If we are getting super specific, I prefer a whitewater kayak in non-whitewater situations.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’m easy – been playing Star Wars Galaxies Legends and City of Heroes. More SWGL this week though. There was good insect meat up on Naboo, so I did a bunch of farming of that, and I’ve been toying with taking one of my crafters (my Architect, whom I seldom use) and turning her into a Medic/Beastmaster like I had back in the day. Still just toying, though.

Boats? Something small, like kayaks – just the right size and scale to never make me contemplate just how deep the horrifying abyss under me is. (Although obviously I should’ve just picked the golden yacht.)

Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): I’d like to dink about in Project Gorgon and Star Citizen some more, or find some RP in Final Fantasy XIV. I’d like to do that, but what will probably end up happening is I’ll be playing Supraland.

My favorite boat, or type of boat more specifically, is the aircraft carrier. As a son of a naval officer I feel like I’m conditioned to say that, but I legitimately do appreciate the craft from a technological standpoint. I was surprisingly sad when I learned the carrier my father served on was scuttled, if that gives you any idea of my connection to the ship type.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Mostly the usual, doing some leveling in FFXIV and tackling my single-player backlog gradually. It’s a low-key sort of weekend.

The best boat is, obviously, the Glory Boat. Second are transforming boats.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I have a feeling that Riders of Rohan is going to unlock soon on Lord of the Rings Online’s progression servers, so I’m trying to finish up the last remnants of the Great River for that. Bree’s also cajoled me into trying out Star Wars Galaxies Legends, which means that I’m bumbling about as a Mon Calimari Medic while enjoying a lot of John Williams music.

Mia DeSanzo (@neschria): I have just started playing Conqueror’s Blade, so I will probably see what I can do with that. My husband has finally agreed to play a game with me, so I may be taking him on a tour of several titles to see what he wants to try– I will probably steer him toward Guild Wars 2 or The Elder Scrolls Online, but there a few others I will show him too.

I like canoes. We always had a canoe when I was growing up.

MJ Guthrie (@MJ_Guthrie, blog): Honestly, I just feel like building and decorating. So this weekend will likely see me in my survival games. First will be Astroneer. And yes, we can build in there a bit; I’m currently making a nice base and creating roads to travel the planet. I might even check out the next planet. Then I will have some time in Conan Exiles working on my tree house. Will I have time to venture into other games? Well… have you seen me when I get engrossed in a building project? I’ll sneak some RP in in EverQuest II because I need that as well. And I can decorate my many houses there!

Samon Kashani (@thesamkash): I play Guild Wars 2. I play ArcheAge Unchained. Please send help.

I have a new favorite boat: dolphin boat.

Tyler Edwards: Still working my way through the Romulan arc in Star Trek Online.

Bonus question: Er, based on what criteria? I never really thought about the relative virtues of different boats. I guess I’ll say Viking longships because I’m a Norse buff?

Patron Pierre: My main game these days is my 2019 GOTY: Death Stranding on PS4. First of all, I must tell you that I never played any of the MGS games, and I’m not at all a Kojima fanboy. So I started playing this game unbiased by former experiences. And I am really loving this game, even if I feel that it’s ringing my bells for so many wrong reasons. I’m a completionist, always looking for perfection in life (I know perfection doesn’t exist, but that will not stop me from pursuing it), and this game tempts people like me with the obvious possibility to achieve a 100% run, if you spend enough time in it. The “UPS-simulator” gameplay that has been mocked so many times is really addictive and so perfectly designed: You have to try it to understand why it’s so good. The story is very complex, and I love complexity. Game direction and writing are very good, and the acting is magnificent. Last but not least, technically, I must admit that getting a game with almost no bugs at all (I say “almost” as I can’t be sure, but I encountered no bugs at all for the moment) is really impressive. There are so many reasons to love this game that I don’t have time to list them all here and I don’t want to risk spoiling for those of you who will play it once it launches on PC. Hence my GOTY for 2019.

When I need a change from this amazing adventure, I go back grinding my rank in the Season of Dawn of Destiny 2. Hopefully, I will be fast enough to reach rank 100 this season. Even if I don’t like the lack of challenge of the game since it went F2P, it’s still the best FPS I know in terms of combat sensations: weapons impact, speed of movement are excellent in this game and I always enjoy spending time in it.

Finally, let me wish you a Happy New Year, MOP readers. And let us know what you’re playing this weekend!
