The Daily Grind: Do MMO studios favor console or PC players more?

Here’s a topic that I’m torn on answering definitively because I think it changes from studio to studio when it comes to prioritizing the PC or console audience in MMOs. Some studios appear to favor one or the other, but I’m sure one’s perspective is going to be biased based on which platform you prefer.

For example, I think that console players have to feel chafed at Cryptic’s constant decision to release content updates on PC first and consoles a month or so later. On the other side, Phantasy Star Online 2 came to console first and with great hoopla, while the PC launch was scarcely hyped and riddled with problems when it came out a month later. Then there’s Bethesda and its willful ignorance of designing video games for anything other than consoles, even when it reluctantly ports them to the PC. And I’m sure some console players are a little irked that some titles, such as World of Warcraft, have never landed on their shores at all.

What do you think about this? Do PC or console players get more love overall from MMORPG studios?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
