Elite Dangerous is reviving its in-game storytelling with the return of Galnet and community goals

Earlier this year, the Elite Dangerous community was justifiably grumpy over the revelation that Frontier had seemingly put an end to communtiy features such as community goals, Interstellar Initiatives, and even pure lore content through GalNet. There were petitions and players begging to be allowed to fill the gap themselves, and even Elite novelist Drew Wagar lamented the lack of narrative love, suggesting that without it, the game’s universe was “empty and sad.”

So here’s some good news for people who were upset about all that: During yesterday’s Frontier stream, the devs announced that they’re bringing back quite a bit of the content that had been sidelined, including the full Galnet with even more posts than before. Community goals are also returning – next week, in fact – with new rewards. According to the lovely Redditor who transcribed the stream, Frontier also said the storyline is already written, there’s a whole dev team dedicated to the lore events, and the stories won’t be dead-end timewasters.

Incidentally, while I was lurking around Reddit hunting for more info about all this, I saw the top post on the sub is the amused reaction to “Facebook nutjobs” who’ve apparently spliced images of an Elite ship into their “ancient aliens” video, which is… yeah. There’s some lore for you guys!
