It’s no longer just a rumor; now we know for a fact that Activision Blizzard is working on a remastered version of the classic Diablo II.
Bloomberg reports that the recent corporate reshuffling that landed Vicarious Visions and its 200 employees in Blizzard’s lap was executed in part because the studio was already working on a Blizzard title, presumably called Diablo II: Resurrected. Vicarious Visions said that it had been working with Blizzard “for some time.”
This is an interesting development, as Blizzard itself was handling the remake until the Warcraft III: Reforged fiasco of early 2020. After that mess, Activision took the project away from Blizzard’s Team 1 and partially handed it to Vicarious Visions. So now with this reorganization, Diablo II has come back home once more.
