Obituary: Prominent Secret World Legends community leader HolloPoint

I’m sorry to report some devastating news out of the Secret World Legends community today: Prominent community member Mark “HolloPoint” Innes has apparently passed away. The news comes via his friends on the official forums and the Zero Point Report twitter feed.

If the name HolloPoint sounds familiar, it should. In fact, we recently joked that folks like Innes appeared to care more about the languishing but much-loved Secret World franchise than Funcom itself. That’s because Innes was one of the chief organizers of the major player-led events in the game, the annual MEGAversary. The fourth MEGAversary kicks off Wednesday, coincidentally, and Innes was the very person who tipped it to us to make sure everyone knew about it.

He was also an amazing artistic talent. You’ve seen his work recently on the cover of Blodwedd Mallory’s Secret World novels, and he’d also designed a massive graphic novel for the game, free for the entire community. Nine Swords Evolutions is still available for reading as of today.

“I am sorry to tell you that Hollopoint (MARK) has passed away, he left us on Friday,” Innes’ friends posted last night. “He had recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and brain tumors, although we don’t know if this was the cause of his death. I would like to tell you this game his cabal and people ingame was a big part of his life and brought him joy. So thank you all for sharing time with my friend Mark Hollopoint.”

I don’t need to emphasize what a massive loss this is for Innes’ family, guild, friends, and the whole Secret World fanbase. Our sympathies extend to both the Funcom community and his loved ones.
