World of Warcraft brings back the Thanksgiving-themed Pilgrim’s Bounty event

If you’re a World of Warcraft player trying to count your blessings, perhaps that will be a bit easier to do in-game with the return of the Pilgrim’s Bounty event, which is running between now and Tuesday, November 30th, at all Alliance and Horde capital cities and most towns.

The event isn’t too dissimilar to Pilgrim’s Bounties past, with achievements for passing servings of dishes to others (or throwing said dishes at others’ heads), hunting wild turkeys, and dressing up in seasonal attire while facing down Talon King Ikiss. There’s also the usual array of seasonal items, battle pets, recipes, and toys; really it’s not different from its 2017 incarnation. Still, for those who like this time of year or perhaps missed out on events past, it’s time to give thanks.

Activision-Blizzard is considered a controversial company in the MMO and gaming space owing to a long string of scandals over the last few years, including the Blitzchung boycott, mass layoffs, labor disputes, and executive pay fiasco. In the summer of 2021, the company was sued by the state of California for fostering a work environment riddled with sexual harassment and discrimination, the disastrous corporate response to which has further compounded Blizzard’s ongoing pipeline issues and the widespread perception that its online games are in decline. As of fall 2021, multiple state and federal agencies are currently investigating the company and the industry has called for Bobby Kotick’s resignation following fresh reports on his misdeeds.
