The Daily Grind: Do you still try to make new friends in MMOs?

Today’s Daily Grind was inspired by a Reddit thread from a user who said he was experiencing a bout of loneliness in MMOs, essentially because his friends would join a game with him, play for a while, and then take off for another game, but he’d be left behind in the game that he really liked. He wrote that he’d tried to join guilds, but then he’d miss his friends and wander off and be kicked anyway. Basically, this is about the pull of old friends vs. the work of making new ones, all set against the backdrop of trying to find games you actually like with people you actually want to play with.

Relatable, right? At least it was to me. I have a group of friends, and we play in small groups occasionally, but most of the time, I don’t strike out in my MMOs and try to create new friend groups. I don’t really feel lonely since I usually have some family with me, but I can definitely understand why some people would.
