The Daily Grind: Have you ever been an ambassador in your MMO?

One of my 2024 resolutions is to push myself out of my comfort zone and enjoy some more diverse MMO gaming. To this, I spent a week revisiting EverQuest II, a title I haven’t played in maybe over a half-decade.

On my second day, I had a Shadowknight trot up to me on a dinosaur and offer to buy me a mount. This player was so dedicated to making sure that I was getting my footing in the game that she ended up sticking around for a half-hour explaining various facets of EQ2. I was quite charmed by the effort and thought about how more MMO studios wish they had players like this.

“Ambassadors,” I label them. And maybe this has been you. You’ve loved your game so much that you go out of your way to talk it up to newbies and give them a helping hand in their early journeys. Have you ever done this?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
