It’s said that you can’t judge a book by its cover, but in the case of the upcoming Ultra Mega Cats, it’s safe to assume a few things about the game. For instance, the presser enjoys itself plenty of cat-related puns like “cat-tastic” and “fur-ever,” so the title’s whole vibe is pretty clearly on the tin:
“Take control of the Mega Cats and claw through randomly generated rooms across corporate prisons to free yourself and the three Ancient feline gods. With an emphasis on fast-paced action, Ultra Mega Cats features intense, bombastic gameplay, allowing you to play how you want – and flex those catlike reflexes– thanks to the diverse cast of characters.”
Ultra Mega Cats promises not only lots of cooperative roguelike action but plenty of character-focused story beats as players work to free the ancient cats from their prisons and create a new cat-topia. Their word, not ours.
Polish developer Fallen Leaf Studios is promising action-packed gameplay against villainous rodents, reptiles, wolves through co-op arenas that feature expected roguelike wrinkles like changing layouts, enemies, and rewards like enhancement-granting aspects and 50 different M.O.D.S. to unlock that upgrade characters. Speaking of characters, five are planned for the game’s full launch, but only two will be playable in early access: the ninja-like Kagero and the tanky BBKat.
A timeline for Ultra Mega Cats’ launch isn’t tied down, but the game is available for wishlisting on Steam now, while a trailer that highlights Kagero’s backstory is below.
