Now you can play with your straight friends!

If you were still harboring some distant hope that Final Fantasy XIV‘s subscription would in some way be rolled into Game Pass for Xbox players, the latest official post on the matter should disabuse you of that notion. The post spells out specifically that players will need to pay for a subscription separately in addition to linking your Square-Enix account to your Xbox account. Moreover, the subscription for users just playing on the console will require buying FFXIV Coins from the Xbox storefront to pay for your subscription.

The post even explicitly states that the game is not a Game Pass title, although the starter edition will be free to Ultimate subscribers for the first month. Of course, it goes almost without saying that on both PC and PlayStation you just subscribe to the game without requiring anything else, but we’ll point it out anyway. Still, if this is the platform you want to play the game on, these are the hoops you must jump through.
