‘Fitness MMORPG’ WalkScape kicks off a second closed beta test and shares a new roadmap

Over the past year we’ve been keeping an eye on WalkScape, a self-described “fitness MMORPG” that very clearly takes some inspiration from an elder statesman of our genre to create what was explained as a mobile pedometer that translates steps taken into in-game actions, all without requiring GPS location to be turned on. Since its initial reveal, the game has been making strides, including opening a community portal in April 2023 and running its first closed beta this past January.

It looks as if the two-person indie team behind the game are making another step forward, as WalkScape has started its second closed beta test, which will run between now and June 15th. Updates made ahead of this beta include a fix for Android pedometers, the addition of new achievements, three new locations, the introduction of abilities that grant powerful instant effects, and new items and activities.

Speaking of updates, WalkScape has also recently put together a development roadmap, which plans a large-scale Syrenthia update sometime in June or July, followed by quality-of-life updates and a third closed beta wave between August and September. In the meantime, instructions for those who want to make the move into this second CBT are here.
