SMITE 2 has been running closed alpha tests a few times already, but those were happening only during weekends. That’s about to change in a few weeks’ time as the refreshed MOBA is preparing for a 24/7 closed alpha test starting on Tuesday, August 27th.
Hi-Rez Studios says that always-online testing is now required in order for the studio to iterate on systems such as player progression and ranked play progression, see how the game operates in terms of stability over a longer period of time, and ensure that the game is fun and engaging for players long-term.
Of course, this new test build isn’t going to be without some new additions, one of which being the legendary Arthurian figure Mordred, who wields a pair of swords, each of which is based on strength and intelligence stats that effectively turn him into a hybrid character. As a result, his abilities can scale with either or both of these stats, with an aggressive playstyle that allows for more powerful attacks or more precise attacks as the situation allows.
A length of time for this next closed alpha hasn’t been tied down, but Hi-Rez is still planning on having a 24/7 closed beta sometime near the latter part of 2024, while free-to-play open beta is being eyed for sometime in 2025.
