The grind for exotic item drops in Destiny 2 is apparently very real. So real, in fact, that players are willing to write and share macros in order to AFK farm for the big shiny. This behavior hasn’t gone unnoticed by Bungie, however, and the developer is now updating its ban policy to account for the behavior.
“Players detected using automation to circumvent idle detection or perform automated activities to earn loot may be restricted or banned,” the studio explains. “Loot includes, but is not limited to, XP, materials, or drops (e.g. Exotic class items).” Bungie further clarifies that bans won’t be retroactive, and those found using macros may receive an in-game warning message.
Of course this does bring up the matter of why players were doing this sort of thing in the first place, which Bungie promises it will address too. “We have some changes to Xur coming that we announced last week, and the team is continuing to look at opportunities for improvement,” it writes. “Know it can be frustrating, but increased feedback/data to show the problem helps a lot, rather than resorting to Macros.”
