Ubisoft is full-speed ahead with Skull and Bones’ third season, which is officially live as of this afternoon. Dubbed Into the Dragon’s Wake, the East Asian-themed season sets players to face off against enemy fleets and work their way through the new smuggler pass.

“From the formidable Li Tian Ning and Commander Zhang to a ferocious dragon that descends from the heavens, players must be ready to face these new foes on the lawless seas,” Ubisoft says. “Players will be able to acquire a new ship – the Battle Junk – that excels at soaking up damage and creating openings to attack enemies. Unique new weapons including the Divine Thunder, an electrically charged long gun that can summon lightning strikes, will also be obtainable.”

The patch also adds a new merchant convoy world event, multiple time-limited events, a third-person captain camera during sailing, optimization for mouse and keyboard controls, new achievements, a black market expansion, and “improved onboarding.”

The game does launch on Steam today, though it hasn’t opened up as I type this at noon. The planned Steam free trial and full Steam Deck compatibility have been “temporarily delayed on Steam,” but they are both still coming eventually.

Finally, Ubisoft has released a producer’s letter today recapping what the team learned from season 2 and incorporated into season 3; the studio says it’s been focused on expanding warehouse storage space, the state of the economy, and even the tone of the game – yes, apparently people complained because it wasn’t giving enough “gritty pirate,” but the team is now focused on delivering “assets that better match your expectations moving forward>”
