Care for a blast from the past? How about something that’s olden? Then you’re ready for Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, the official prequel to the seminal turn-based strategy RPG series being developed by Unfrozen and published by Ubisoft.

Olden Era returns to the world of Enroth and the origins of the legendary saga, inviting both veterans and new players to go on a new strategic quest on Jadame, a mysterious continent in turmoil, never before explored in the main Heroes of Might and Magic series, with its unique factions, biomes and creatures.”

In addition to the expected single-player campaign, Olden Era is also bringing three multiplayer modes to the table: classic, which lets players command multiple heroes, build up their castle, and explore a randomly generated map; one-hero mode, a “blitz-like” mode that gives players only one hero to control (and by extension one life); and arena mode, which lets players duke it out in a PvP arena.

Olden Era is planning on an early access release sometime in the second quarter of next year to mark the game series’ 30th anniversary, with “core gameplay mechanics and a substantial portion of the content […] planned for the full release” along with the promise of more content, refined features, and improved visuals over its planned year-long early access. The game can be wishlisted now, and we’ve got a trailer and a gallery of images below to ogle.
