Cozy survival sandbox Ylands preps Fleet Friends patch with improved multiplayer setup

Back in June, after first hearing about Ylands and diving into it myself years after its actual launch, I lamented that it didn’t have a higher profile in the survival genre, given its high-quality, polish, and position under the Bohemia umbrella. So I’ve kept it on my radar – and it’s time for a check-in. Indeed, it looks as if we’re getting the first stages of the update that Bohemia teased, as Ylands dropped a preview of it last week.

“We’ve been hard at work on the upcoming update, which we titled Fleet Friends,” the studio says. Players can test it out right now – Steam players, that is. The update includes the option to have multiple boats and vehicles, improvements to animal taming, more companions, updated avatar portraits, and a buff buff to the editor, including new items and critters.

Most notably, the multiplayer features got a glow-up:

“Playing with your friends is now easier than ever as we streamlined multiplayer games setup and made it more user-friendly. Multiplayer sessions can be created directly from the Region Map in Adventure mode and can seamlessly be changed to any type on the fly. […] Rented servers can now be purchased for 7 days to make them more accessible. Additionally, they can function as a travel server. When traveling to a different scenario, the server owner can swap the current scenario with the destination scenario on a single Rented server slot. This makes group travel much more convenient.”

Ylands is F2P on Steam; a single-player version also exists on the Switch.
