Last month insider reports from Bungie confirmed the existence of Destiny: Rising, a NetEase-developed mobile prequel of the multiplayer looter shooter where players control hero characters, engage in third-person gameplay, and take on activities such as missions, strikes, and raids. It looks as if most of the rumors about the game are indeed true, as NetEase has officially pulled back the curtain on the game today.

“NetEase Games is thrilled to announce Destiny: Rising, a new epic free-to-play mobile sci-fi RPG shooter featuring a variety of playable hero characters, a shared world, and an abundance of game modes, all set within the rich tapestry of the Destiny Universe. Developed and published by NetEase Games, and officially licensed by Bungie, creators of the Destiny franchise, Destiny: Rising delivers a brand-new adventure set in an alternate Destiny timeline, exploring a narrative in the post-Dark Age era. Featuring a diverse roster of characters, each with unique abilities and stories, Destiny: Rising offers players dynamic and challenging single, co-op, and competitive multiplayer gameplay, including beloved game modes familiar to Destiny players, and all-new modes that introduce new ways to play Destiny.”

The announcement confirms that the shooter can be played in both first-person and third-person views, either with a touchscreen, mobile gamepads, or Xbox and PlayStation controllers. The playable roster promises well-known and new characters that have individual powers and skills, while gameplay will bring campaign missions, multiplayer strikes, customizable personal spaces, social party games, and repeatable multiplayer PvE and PvP modes. Naturally there will be loot as well in the form of multiple new weapons to find, from normal to exotic to the all-new mythic tier.

Currently there is no launch date for Destiny: Rising at the moment, but NetEase is readying for a closed alpha test on Friday, November 1st, in the US and Canada. In the meantime, there’s a gameplay trailer, a developer showcase video, and some concept artwork waiting below.
