Dungeons and Dragons Online’s first 64 bit server and Lanterns of the Mist event are live today

Cormyr is officially here in Dungeons and Dragons Online today – that’s the first 64 bit server the 18-year-old MMORPG has ever had. Studio Standing Stone Games says the new server will “[offer] technological improvements including a smoother gameplay experience.” And of course, it’s also a clean-slate server if you’ve been hungry for a fresh start world – with no character transfers in or out.

As MOP’s Justin noted on this week’s podcast, however, there is a catch: You have to be a current subscriber to access this server. SSG did the same thing with Lord of the Rings Online’s new 64 bit server, so it’s probably not a shock to studio fans, but bear it in mind if you’re coming back after a long time away.

Meanwhile, DDO’s brand-new Lanterns in the Mists event is live on all servers new and old, adding a new dimension to the Halloween season.

“The Mists of Ravenloft have begun to appear with greater frequency across the planes, and there are reports of mysterious humanoid or snake-like shapes whispering in these mists. Too many are disappearing across Faerun and Eberron, falling prey to these Mist Stalkers. There are even rumors of a great serpent seen in the mists. Lantern-bearing strangers calling themselves the Order of the Guardians claim to have a solution to this threat. Are you ready to heed their call?”

Notably, the new Cormyr server is not getting the traditional Halloween event this year, just Lanterns!
