Fractured Online fans now know when “soon” will be for the MMORPG’s transition over to its free-to-play model: Dynamight Studios has announced the monetization model shift will land on Wednesday, November 20th, along with the game’s first new season and some tech upgrades.
As we reported previously, the shift is a result of box sales not driving revenue yet still being enough of a barrier to entry for most players. Instead, the studio’s revenue stream will now rely solely on subscriptions and the cash shop, though it promises that those will not enter pay-to-win territory. The only major difference is that subscribers will get access to an additional VIP rewards track in the first season’s battle pass along with a renaming of founder’s packs to supporter’s packs.
Before the F2P release, players can expect a patch next week that will introduce a guild alliance feature and apply several bug fixes. After that, it’s looking like it will be time to open the gates.
