NetEase drops a roadmap for EVE Echoes promising more content – but with few timelines

“Will there be no more content for New Eden in the future?” is probably not the best way to announce your roadmap, but that’s what NetEase has done for EVE Echoes this week. The answer, by the way, is yes, there will be more content.

The studio’s new roadmap has a whole list of content coming “soon”: new character portraits, a ships balance update, a new nanocore, new cosmic anomalies, an advanced scanner, new neural response implant units, implant resets, and an advanced combat corporation citadel called Fortizar. That balance update for ships, missiles, and modules, by the way, are expected in the next couple of weeks, but we don’t have timelines for the rest.

NetEase also addresses two other topics: the fact that everyone is using the same overpowered implants and cores, and the fact that the sandbox has a rich-get-richer situation going on with alliance control. As to the former, the studio says the nanocore and implant reset features will help, as as to the eternal sandbox problem…

“The current plan primarily includes the following: Introducing the Declaration of War feature (primarily targeting powerful Corporations or Alliances in each region. Individuals cannot be declared war on, and battles cannot be fought in High-Sec). Rank System Optimization (introducing more ways to earn Merits, such as 00 Sovereignty Battles, reducing Merit loss, adding more Rank bonuses, exclusive modules, and advanced ships). Standing Limitation (Standing maintenance costs will increase with the number of Corporations and will significantly increase with the number of Alliances. Individual Standing does not affect the cost but is limited in quantity). Size Limitation (Alliance maintenance costs will increase with the total number of Corporations and Alliance members).”

Whether that’ll be enough to soothe the worries of the mobile MMO, we’ll just have to see.
