In the annals of MMORPG history, Kickstarted MMORPG Crowfall seems destined to be remembered for its impressive crowdfunding totals, imaginative character designs, strong developer pedigree, and a shockingly rapid crash-and-burn following its 2021 launch. But what’s happened to this game since then?
Crowfall officially went offline — allegedly for “retooling” — two years ago in November 2022. Since then, owner Monumental (which bought Crowfall from Artcraft back in December 2021) has been largely silent on the prospects of resurrecting the game, especially after it was hit by a round of layoffs this past February and the company pivoted to blockchain. The game’s Discord has been heavily wiped, as well, with just two channels left and not a peep in the last two years.
Some players gathered on the Crowfall reddit this month to mark the two-year anniversary of the shutdown. “I would love for it to come back. Not optimistic about its chances but would be thrilled if it does,” said one fan.
As another player commented when asked about a possible resurrection, “Monumental was only ever essentially a mobile games one-hit wonder who never had any of the skillsets required to polish, never mind fix, the pile of fecal matter that Crowfall still was in its final state.”
This one’s dead and buried, folks. What are your memories and experiences of Crowfall from back in the day?
