Ahead of tonight’s launch, Marvel Rivals outlines its battle pass and cosmetic monetization

This does fit for Iron Man, to be fair.

So you know that Marvel Rivals is going to be free-to-play, and you know that it’s going to offer all its maps, content, and heroes for free. But you also know from basic logic that it’s still going to want to take your money in some fashion via cosmetics, and the game has detailed exactly what its business model is going to look like in the latest post from NetEase. The short version is that most of the cosmetics are going to be in bundles that run you between $16-$24, and there’s also a battle pass available for $5 each season.

It is, however, a little more complicated than that; there are two currencies, UNITS (which are distributed for free via the free battle pass, the paid battle pass, and so forth) and LATTICE (which is bought for money and converts to UNITS at a 1:1 rate). You can use the former currency to buy bundles and cosmetics while the latter must be used to buy the premium battle pass, as well as being usable via conversion for bundles.

Marvel Rivals officially launches tonight at 7 p.m. EST; as we’ve been covering, it’s NetEase’s latest answer to the team shooter. It’s not an MMO, obviously, but even we loved it during testing.
