Raccoon!

Back to the Future: The secret twist of this film is that Marty McFly is a horse.

Back to the Future Part IV: The unproduced script for this film makes the twist that Marty McFly is still a horse, but he’s actually a different horse than the horse you think he is.

Titanic: The boat sinks because it’s secretly a horse.

Black Beauty: Oh. Wait. Sorry. I mixed this one up. I thought I was renting Black Panther. If that were the case it would be a surprise. This one just says it’s about a horse. Sorry. This one actually isn’t a secret surprise. We knew it was about a horse.

BoJack Horseman: It’s a double fakeout because you think it’s about a horse voiced by Will Arnett, but it was actually voiced by his Horse Dimension doppelganger, Horse Arnett! Also in that dimension everyone’s first name is Horse. What a stupid dimension.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier: God exists and is just a horse.

Secretariat: I thought this was about a secretary.

Rocky Raccoon: Rocky Raccoon is just his name. He’s actually a horse.

What Are You Playing: Media where the protagonist is actually a horse but it’s a secret edition: Neigh.

What MMOs and other games are you playing this weekend? Bonus question: What were you afraid of as a kid that you’re still afraid of today?

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna.bsky.social, blog): I have been in Star Wars Galaxies Legends a bunch this week already thanks to Inconvenient House Footprint Alteration Patch, so I had to scramble to change my entire housing setup lest someone plant something ugly in my front yard. I expect I’ll still be working on that because I’m still not happy with it. I’m also still tinkering with The Sims 4 on the side! And Stars Reach has another playtest on Saturday, so I’m going to try to attend that and see if the graphical issues have cleared up.

I was gonna say heights, but Chris beat me to it, plus I think I’m actually more nervous around heights now than I used to be. (Remember the rollercoaster that used to go around the top of the Stratosphere in Vegas? I went on that voluntarily and totally sober, for some insane reason? You could not pay me to do that now.) So I switch my answer to particularly gross insects. I’m never gonna stop freaking out at roaches.

Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes.bsky.social, blog): It’s another open beta weekend for Monster Hunter Wilds, so that’s pretty much going to be my weekend set I think. I will also probably do little peeks into Final Fantasy XIV but, honestly? That’s not very likely at all.

Bonus: Heights. I am deathly afraid of heights and sudden changes in height. There was a point in a VR game where I was standing on a thin beam over a huge chasm and I nearly wet myself.

Eliot Lefebvre (Blog): Some of the Warframe stuff, but I’ve honestly been reaching a point where I’m ready to start winding down a little bit until the next patch. Otherwise, a touch of FFXIV and single-player games otherwise.

Needles. I’ve been scared of needles my entire life and I’ve always kind of felt like I really ought to change that, like it doesn’t make sense when I’ve gotten so many injections and IVs and donated blood and so forth. But I am still really, really scared of needles.

Sam Kash (@samkash@mastodon.social): I’m on an extraction RPG kick at the moment. Not by choice really but these games are flying out left and right so I can’t help but get pulled into the hype of trying them out. Offline I’m making my way through Armored Core VI. It’s got a lot of what I remember loving about the series available. However I really struggle not clicking the R and L pads in. Guess I bear down too hard when battles get intense.

Bonus: I was afraid of spiders. Still don’t like them but someone in the house has to suck it up and handle them, so it tends to be me. However my oldest is getting brave and isn’t fazed. So recently I’ll call her over to handle it.

Tyler Edwards (blog): World of Warcraft, probably more The First Descendant. I downloaded a free trial PDF of a D&D campaign designed for solo play, and I want to give that a try, but I have a sinking feeling I’m not gonna get around to it.

Bonus: Spiders.
