Embers Adrift prepares its ‘Rekindled’ Steam version with an auction hall and crafting revamp

It’s been a long journey for MMORPG Embers Adrift. The Kickstarted indie MMORPG actually appeared to be doing well enough for itself until last year, when Stormhaven Studios told players that its payment processor had effectively yoinked its money and that the team was struggling. The result was that Stormhaven said it would temporarily go free-to-play pending a move to Steam. Now, that move is finally almost here.

“We are coming to the end of the Steam migration soon,” the devs wrote in Discord last night. “All of your support over the last several months has been amazing and we truly appreciate those who play the game and who have helped us keep the lights on.”

“It is now been over 9 months since Digital River screwed us over and since we’ve collected any revenue; continued dev has been hard. However, we are very excited that as your tried and true underdog indie dev team here at Stormhaven Studios this is yet one more hurdle we’ve been able to jump. We are so excited to get things kicked off on Steam soon. We are planning to do a soft launch at the end of this month with a big content patch at the end of May to coincide with the promotion of Embers Adrift REKINDLED. We hope everything goes according to this plan.”

Yes, you heard that right: new branding with Embers Adrift Rekindled.

Stormhaven does say that it’s been making “serious efforts to improve the game experience,” including the new auction house, more character slots and storage, new raid bosses and loot, the compass, the follow command, the crafting revamp, and the leveling system, which no longer requires as much grind.

The devs also reiterate that they’ve had no revenue for nine months (do we assume nobody has been paid?) and asks for support ahead of time.
