Over the past weekend, Riot Games’ highly lauded League of Legends animated series Arcane debuted its final three episodes of the first season, which has naturally prompted calls for a second season. According to Riot CEO Nicolo Laurent, that second season is coming, though not without a bit of a wait. “So yeah, we are working on [..] season 2. The good news: you won’t have to wait for 6 years (the time it took us to making season 1). The bad news: it’s not coming in 2022,” Laurent writes.

The final three episodes were all part of a whole slew of videos unleashed during Riot’s RiotX Arcane promotional event, which included several music videos as well as a development update from Project L, the Ruenterra fighting game that was first revealed in 2019. Senior director and executive producer Tom Cannon confirmed that it would be a 2v2 tag fighter and offered a “vertical slice” of the game’s direction. Project L will also not be coming in 2022, as the devs are adamant in making “a super high-quality fighting game that the FGC can invest deeply in, playing for years or even decades.” Ideally, the studio can do that without also being sexually harassing to its devs.

Riot Games is considered a controversial company in the gaming world following a 2018 exposé of the sexual discrimination and harassment inherent in what workers described as its “bro culture.” The scandal brought forth accusations against multiple developers and high-ranking executives and ultimately led to a developer labor dispute and walk-out. Lawsuits from former workers and the state of California, which has alleged that Riot is refusing to cooperate with its investigation, are ongoing.
