The Guardian Games event in Destiny 2 is about a lot of things – medals, bragging rights, friendly competition – but this year’s event is going to primarily be about one thing and one thing only: an absolutely sick hoverboard mount.
Tuesday, March 5th, will bring back the Olympics-themed Guardian Games for another round, only this time the marquee reward is a new type of mount known as a skimmer, which sits in the same space as the sparrow, only it allows Guardians to trade in boring old hoverbikes for gnarly hoverboards. And yes, players can perform some sick tricks while riding the skimmer because Bungie understood the assignment.
Getting hands on the Guardian Games-themed skimmer is a simple matter of completing the event’s onboarding quest, then finishing a specific quest to unlock the mount forever. Failing that, players can buy another skimmer themed after a famous in-game weapon from the cash shop. The Guardian Games event is otherwise similar to previous years, with an event card of challenges to clear, medals to earn from activities, and a pedestal to slam those medals in to in order for each of the three classes to climb the weekly leaderboard and players to get their hands on loot.
The update that launches the Guardian Games event will also introduce far-reaching balance update patch as well, which touches weapons, items, perks, and PvP. And yes, that’s important, but not as important as a rad hoverboard.
