It would be unfair to claim that Pantheon’s upcoming early access launch is somehow ambiguous. The developers at Visionary Realms have been very clear about how and when early access is starting. But it’s important to note that the game’s release in December will not be a soft launch. It will be an incredibly hard launch. Dense as diamond. This launch will be so solid that… wait, sorry, it says here that it will be a proper early access period that will be a seamless transition from its existing test phases. Sorry. So it’s actually the opposite of hard launches!
Speaking of hardness, Vigor hard-launched directly into a hard wall of negative reviews from players. Not ideal! New World released some stats from its beta testing and it also saw a small bump in terms of PC players along with more console pre-orders, so let’s see how this particular one plays out before making jokes about hardness or softness. And on that general note, Throne & Liberty’s global launch will be here soon, so it has released its patch notes ahead of time. Unlike Blue Protocol, this game is actually happening!
Am I bitter? Yes, I’m bitter. I got my hand too close to Throne & Liberty’s soft tummy and then it latched its claws into my skin. This is everybody’s fault but mine. Celebrate that mental image with our list of beta news just below, and you can check out our full list of games in testing just below that. If something skipped to a new test phase without us noticing, let us know down in the comments! We appreciate you, dear readers.
We consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s often under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed, nor will games that are NFT/blockchain scams; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions. Finally, we’ll mark games “malingering” if they’ve been in a certain tier of development for a long time with no clear path to launch.

Yes, MMO gamers, you too can perform the unpaid quality-control work otherwise known as game testing! Check out Massively Overpowered’s Betawatch every week for a run-down of MMOs that are still on the road to launch, even if they appear to have set up a permanent residence in a shed called early access.
