The Daily Grind: How often do your MMO alts become your mains?

I’ve been thinking about this question for a while now, as my Engineer has taken my whole heart in Guild Wars 2. I have played a Warrior since launch – a Berserker since Heart of Thorns – and my Engineer was a top alt, but she was relatively neglected because if I was playing, I felt obligated to play my “main,” who had all the story and map unlocks.

And I’m still playing my Warrior, and I’ve been playing a few other characters too, but if I I’m honest with myself, the Engi has become my new main after all this time. That’s the toon I’d rather be playing, period. She just works beautifully and flexibly depending on whether I want to be be a lazy ranged pet person or an edge-dancing ninja.

It’s not the first time I’ve ever changed mains in an MMO, and it surely won’t be the last one either. Have you ever changed mains in an MMO? How often does it happen to you? Or are you just that good at picking the right you-class from the start?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
