The devotees and skeptics of Star Citizen will likely have their eyes firmly fixed on CIG this weekend, as the studio’s 2024 edition of its CitizenCon showcase is on the horizon, emanating from the Manchester Center in Manchester, UK, this Saturday, October 19th, and Sunday, October 20th.

The in-person event promises its 5,000 attendees a bunch of meetups, food, lounges, and community-run events like the local Bar Citizen hangout and the Atmo Esports-led ship racing exhibitions and finals for its Fight or Flight dogfighting tournament, all while the event center is styled after the interior of a capital ship.

Of course there will be plenty of panels and reveals over the course of the weekend as well. Day one kicks off with a keynote, followed by panels that highlight the Genesis suite of tools associated with the game’s StarEngine, upcoming social features, character specialization, and systems beyond Stanton and Pyro, then wrapping up with the promise of special surprise announcements. Day two’s panels promise information on “Crafting Your Home,” new vehicle reveals, and word on the MMO’s 1.0 release.

The events will be broadcast on CIG’s Twitch and YouTube channels live starting at 5:00 a.m. EDT(!) each morning, but naturally we’ll be reporting in with the major reveals as well as a full recap of the panels if you’re not keen on living in UK local time. The full panel schedule can be enlarged by clicking below.

Longtime MMORPG gamers will know that Star Citizen was originally Kickstarted for over $2M back in 2012 with a planned launch for 2014. As of 2024, it still lingers in an incomplete but playable alpha, having raised over $700M from gamers over years of continuing crowdfunding and sales of in-game ships and other assets. It is currently the highest-crowdfunded video game ever and has endured both indefatigable loyalty from advocates and immense skepticism from critics. A co-developed single-player title, Squadron 42, has also been repeatedly delayed.
