Extra Life is kicking off this weekend! The charity group has been organizing game developers and players alike in an annual gaming marathon for most of the last decade, and thanks to Twitch, we can watch and tip participants as they play to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. MMORPG studios like Trion, Perfect World, En Masse, and Turbine (thanks Toanstation!) are all streaming for the charity this weekend. (In fact, Trion is one of the core sponsors.)
“All money donated to the En Masse Entertainment Extra Life page will count towards the team’s $5,000 goal and will go towards the Seattle Children’s Hospital.”
“Perfect World Entertainment is excited to announce our participation in this year’s Extra Life charity drive. […] The donations received during this event will benefit the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. […] The goal we’ve set for our efforts is $25,000.”
“Saturday November 5 marks Trion’s sixth year participating– how time flies! As always, we’ve got a full 24 hours of streaming to keep you guys company during your adventures, showcasing all our games: RIFT, ArcheAge, Defiance, Trove, Devilian and the newly launched Atlas Reactor! […] We’ve raised almost $300,000 through the years for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals— and it’s all thanks to people like you. Let’s reach new heights together.”
“I have set a personal goal of raising $3,000 for the Boston Children’s Hospital, and have set a $10,000 goal for Team LOTRO. Since the LOTRO team is based in the Boston area, this hospital made sense, although you are of course welcome to select any hospital you wish to for your personal goal. I don’t know that I or we will hit these goals, but they seemed like a good place to aim for. I know my own son once received care from the Boston Children’s Hospital, and I think anyone who’s been playing LOTRO for a while will be aware of Sapience’s outstanding efforts to support these folks.”
Know of any other MMORPG studios taking part?
