Marvel Heroes is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as Marvel Heroes Omega

Remember all those rumors about Marvel Heroes maybe someday coming to console, right down to a screenshot of a possible console UI? It’s happening! Gazillion announced this morning that the game is porting over to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this spring as “Marvel Heroes Omega.”

“On behalf of everyone at Gazillion, I’m excited to share news that we’re bringing Marvel Heroes Omega to PS4 this spring,” writes Gazillion Community Manager David Lee on the PlayStation blog. “So what is Marvel Heroes Omega? Marvel Heroes Omega doesn’t really fall into typical genre categories. It draws inspiration from both action-RPGs and MMOs, making it a truly unique blend of non-stop action and near limitless progression!”

According to the Q&A on the official forums, the game is also headed to the Xbox One, though it’ll release separately. Gazillion says it has no plans to transfer characters from PC to PS4; cross-platform play is not happening either. Closed beta will begin soon with lots of perks for paying PS members and an early access program too.

The game looks much narrower in focus, with only 38 of the MMO’s playable toons. “By narrowing our focus and scope, the Marvel Heroes team can ensure the best possible experience on console at launch,” says Gaz. “Don’t worry, we plan regular additions and updates!”

We’ve got the new images with the new logo and the trailer down below.

Not that I really expected crossplay, but still really disappointed there will be separate versions / servers.

I was going to try to get my boyfriend and a bunch of other friends to play this when it hit console, but now there is 0 point since we won’t be able to play together.

Well, at least this is something I can just completely ignore.

Not the greatest news for PC MMORPGs in general as more go the way of console and all that that means.

But, for Marvel Hereos?

I guess that’s cool but I see no value at all as a current player. If there was cross platform play I’d have cared but there’s not.

Much like with Star Trek Online’s previous “to console” launch, this has no real value to the current player base. They already have my money, they won’t be getting it again on a different platform.

Increased revenue helps the game overall.

i disagree. there was value to current sto players in the console launch – a fresh economy not run by one person with 98097908708709882342984230984 dil bots.

the nature of playstion/xbox accounts, their cost to access and console id’s makes it quite a bit more difficult for one person to have several dozen accounts all farming dil, flipping keys and controlling the direction of the economy making supply and demand a non-issue

What’s really killed it for me was when they started retroactively changing the look of cosmetic items sold in the cash shop.

IMO you don’t change the look of a purely cosmetic item after customers have already paid for it.

Dont they mean Marvel Heroes Omega 2017 [pending initial reviews]?

Well, at least we know why we still dont have so many promised and needed features in the game that cause it to feel way out of balance and wack currently

And of course, more herp derp reasons as to why cross platform isnt supported in yet another game.

You can blame the console makers for that imho. They need to pre-approve any patches or content before allowing it in their system.

They also don’t want people playing a game on their consoles which have item sales that can be done outside their own markets, the primary reason you don’t see character/account transfers or copies in these ports. Someone playing MHO on PS4 who’s already running around with everything unlocked = lost revenue for Sony/MS (not to mention loss of extra sales for the game dev).

This is why Warframe only had one PS4 account snapshot back in its initial ‘beta’ on that console, and no transfers for Xbone, even though they’ve actually had software versions synced up before.

Good for them. More console goodness for me!

Gosh, what a surprise.

Glad to see they finally announced it though so that they can stop evading the subject (probably to not break NDAs).

Gosh I never saw that coming ever. Hope it is worth it for them and that they will continue to push thing to PC in a timely manner.

Seems cool. Won’t touch it after what I’ve invested into the PC version, as much as I’d love to play this with my PS4 friends.

This would have been an act of massive corporate malpractice not to bring this to consoles. Consoles is where all the smart money is moving in terms of Western gaming, while PC gaming (MMOs) are pretty much going to be an Asian dominated field in the next decade.

I played one character to max in Marvel Heroes on PC (Storm at launch), but didn’t feel the urge to go through again even though there were plenty of characters. It just didn’t feel ‘worthy’ of my PC playing time given there were more actual MMOs out (SWTOR, ESO, FFXIV, TSW, etc) so I shelved it.

Glad I did because now I don’t have to worry about porting characters over (or lack of) after putting hundreds of hours into something. That definitely would have pissed me off considering the game is nothing but a giant hamster wheel in terms of repeating the same cycle from starting zone to endgame zone.
I definitely will play this as an occasional F2P thing on PS4 as it seems suited to that from the start imo.

As everyone said when they first started the massive revamp that few were asking for… it was clear all along the primary goal was to make it more console friendly.

Lack of pc-console crossplay is a bad idea. Also curious how the dev team (already struggling with the PC version) is going to handle multiple versions/environments.

What do you mean a bad idea? They cannot do cross platforming because Microsoft and Sony refuse to let their players play together. There is absolutely nothing Gazillion can do about that. About the only thing they could have done is put it one one console or the other. Thats the only way they could do x-platform.

If they have the same crappy inventory system on the PS4, I won’t play. Simple as that.

Cool, maybe I’ll give it a spin. Aaaand in light of this I’m sure the MH forums will be a very pleasant place today….

The thing we all knew was coming is coming.

Still, I have never actually played this ever before, so I might give it a spin whenever it comes out on the Xbox One.

While I am OK with them not transferring items, I would like to see unlocks transfer over. I would love to play this game on my XB1, but I will not re-purchase all of the heroes all over again.

No transfer? Meh. Not that I have a PS4.

Anyway, I hope they make money on this for further development.
