Earn your wings in Guild Wars 2’s new PvP leagues

Coming this fall to a Guild Wars 2 near you will be the next evolution of the game’s PvP scene.

ArenaNet announced today that it will be introducing PvP leagues with the launch of Heart of Thorns. According to the studio, the leagues will be “a place for beginning PvP players as well as up-and-coming PvP talent to compete, see progress, set goals, and be rewarded.”

The leagues will be divided into six divisions (from amber to legendary) and take place according to a seasonal schedule. As players work up through divisions, they can be assured that losing matches will never knock them back down a division while a season is running. Of course, there are rewards as well, including nameplate badges and spiffy new wings.

You can check out an overview of the PvP leagues in the following video.

While the video is a nice preview, the blog post ANet put up today is actually even more informative.

thickenergy I don’t know you, nor did I read your post.

I just wanted to say I’m tired of posters who don’t add anything constructive to the topic at hand, and that every hipster poster loves to post about games they do not play, and probably have never played, having very little idea of that game’s community or it’s wants.

I don’t play GW2, because NCSoft. Nor did I read this article.
I just wanted to say that I’m really tired of wings, and that every game feels the need to add them in some fashion. I can probably blame it on Aion.
Which I also don’t play, because NCSoft.

I fear this will make the queue time even longer as it have to make matching within the smaller division scope.

Ceimash camelotcrusade Dystopiq I’d have to like having wings on my character to have the jelly emote kick in. Since I don’t….

camelotcrusade Dystopiq The difference here is that when I run around with those wings, you’ll be jelly because not very many people have it.

SoMuchMass I was going to basically say the same thing.  GW2’s new rewards only consist of wings and back items.  It’s sad.

Wings and Backpacks, because of one size fits all.  Anything else would require too much work.

Dystopiq I know what you mean, wings as go-to-must-have items seem very tired to me as well.  As soon as everybody is running around with wings I start feeling like a game has jumped the shark.  You can’t undo that sort of thing, and suddenly the visual aesthetic goes from whatever it was to a glorified insect swarm.
