Diablo III patch adds new zone and the powerful Kanai’s Cube

16

Diablo III players, your journey is not yet complete. Today, Blizzard released the game’s 2.3.0 patch, giving adventurers more territory to explore and goals to reach.

A new map is open with the patch, the Ruins of Sescheron. This icy wasteland not only gives more fodder for your mighty hand of destruction but also adds a story surrounding a mystery of the absent barbarians who used to live there.

Players will want to venture into the Ruins since it’s the only place in the game to obtain Kanai’s Cube, a sort of successor to Diablo II’s Horadric Cube. Kanai’s Cube allows for further item customization and ways to extract and forge legendaries.

Patch 2.3.0 also contains a new season journey which will kick in when Season 4 begins and updates to Diablo III’s adventure mode.

carsont Yeah i went in 35 minutes really nothing to see here. Just more RNG gear grind is all.

I don’t know about that… In terms of actual content it’s just one map. My friend and I went there on a bounty to retrieve our cube and even with exploring every square inch and encountering two events the whole thing as maybe 30-45 minutes or so.
Aside from some new gear, the cube, harder mind and some QOL changes that’s about it.
I’m not begrudging it at all, but it’s a long, long ways from being even part of an expansion really.
What the my should do is offer DLC if they don’t want to do an entire expansion at once. That’s definitely something I’d pay for.

carsont Superbrak Nothing confirmed, the only real hint was a job posting for a lead artist on an unannounced project with emphasis on Diablo. Given the way RoS ended (and how well it sold), I cant help but feel Blizz has at least one more in them.
Though if they keep the patches the same quality and scope as Patch 2.3, I don’t care if they make another expansion myself… it’s like getting one free.

Superbrak There’s going to be another expansion? Don’t get me wrong, I’d love one, but it seems like it’s up in the air :/

The cube completely changes gear scarcity.  You can take any item and with basic mats upgrade it to a random legendary of the same type.  Need a specific weapon?  No problem.  Take a bunch of rare weapons and upgrade them.

Get one with crappy rolls?  Farm some rarer mats and reroll it.  Basically you can now get all the gear very quickly and spend most of your time trying to get well rolled ancient versions.

Man… the Ruins of Sescheron zone is by far the most Diablo-like area in Diablo 3. Grisly visuals, muted color palette, and really evocative of the kind of dread I’d expect to feel in Sanctuary. The ghosts, the throne room, the background music… just great!
If this is shades of what to expect in their next expansion, I’m really excited!

Krem I totally here you on that.
I am of the camp that there is nothing wrong  with new classes that have some skill crossover with existing classes.  Marvel Heroes goes way overboard but even that game isn’t doom and gloom because you have a dozen each of brawlers, tanks, and nukers.
So classes like necros, assassins, druids and amazons could still work in D3.

Waiting impatiently for Friday afternoon and the start of Season 4.  I’m ready for my new Crusader to kick butt.

The cube effects are crazy.  Calamity plus my setup, Convection of Elements on top of Focus+Restraint and Pride’s Fall / Cindercoat reduced costs are just amazing.  Consuming the legendary for the effect is interesting as well but potentially dangerous if you have an item you rerolled but also may want to use instead.

CastagereShaikura I’ve gotten a few Yang’s Recurve to drop and they make the UE6 Demon Hunter build just insane.  Eventually gambled for one and was able to get it Ancient with near perfect rolls to the point I was able to reroll the damage to max with 10%, 929/1000 dex and -44% resource cost reduction (!!!).  Stack on 50% faster Multishots and I’m an automatic shotgun now with multishot.  It’s amazing.
