It was on this date in 2004 that a little-known fantasy MMO debuted on the scene after a half-decade of development and testing. False modesty aside, World of Warcraft was already a huge phenomenon at its launch (breaking all sorts of MMO records), growing exponentially over its first few years. While recently the title has taken a substantial hit in its subscription numbers, it still boasts 5.5 million players.
Today, WoW marks its 11th anniversary since its release, with players enjoying a gift package if they log in through November 30th. Blizzard is encouraging fans to use the #11YearsofWoW hashtag on Twitter to share congratulations and memories.
Happy Anniversary to World of Warcraft! #11YearsofWoW!https://t.co/sRi4I3lUHU
