Betawatch: Having fun with Black Desert’s character creator (January 22, 2016)

Playing it is a different story.

Who doesn’t like a good character creator? The people in charge of Black Desert clearly like having one so much that a standalone version was released. Now everyone can enjoy making characters that are just like Bart. If you can’t wait to make a character and play said character, of course, you’ll have to wait for the next closed beta test starting up on February 18th.

Meanwhile, Blade & Soul leaves the list altogether, what with its launch this past Tuesday.

And there’s other beta news, too!

And just as in previous weeks, we do indeed have more titles listed down below. Is something missing? Why, let us know in the comments!

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions.

I could not create a black character so I passed om this game.

my gaming buddies are telling me this avatar looks like Valerie Bertinelli.   I’m laughing about it, quite unintentional, but i see a little resemblance there.

karmamule do tell?

orionite Dorian Grey.. hehe ;)

karmamule thank you kindly! well yeah i am no fashion model.  just your average isle of skye Scot!

orionite melissaheather You can definitely fine-tune your character’s expression with the tools they give you. There’s so much control over the eyes, that’s one of its strongsuits, IMO.

Oh, and Melissa, I really admire how you made your character pretty, but still with plenty of realistic character.  Too many BDO characters I see created look like Stepford Wives.

Here’s my witch I made with the character creator….  Ideas for her personality are already percolating away.

Greaterdivinity Pretty sure you’re right; I’ve been reluctant to pull it, but I think it’s time to put a fork in it. A shame indeed.

melissaheather Only a few days ago, I mentioned: I wish they would just release a character editor by itself. So I downloaded it right away… only to once again be reminded that my artistic prowess is sadly lacking. Was trying to create Vince Vega from Pulp Fiction, but I realized I don’t even know what to change when it doesn’t quite look right. I just don’t have “the eye”.

Of course, I don’t know how close this is to what you wanted, but it looks great! Quite real. Did you go for that slightly haunted look or is that just how all BD chars come out?

Ah nvm, I see I’m late to the party – you guys already did a piece on HEX PvE … link to article is here if anyone wants:

PvE finally comes to HEX next week
