Funcom shares its future plans for Conan Exiles from the GDC show floor

He seems nice.

It’s full speed ahead for Conan Exiles development this year, with no plans to slow down the game’s pace over the next several months. Funcom has released a video from the GDC show floor detailing the game’s development plans for the next year or so. The bad news is that it’s not a quick video, clocking in at just a bit below 15 minutes with the bustling sounds of a convention in the background. The good news, of course, is that it is a thorough video.

Players can look forward to seeing small updates to the game every one to two weeks, with larger mechanical updates coming along every few months. The first major update will include siege warfare and all of its associated frills, while the second update includes NPC armies attacking player structures to provide something of an endgame scenario. Check out the whole video just below for more looks into the future of the game.

I commented on their Facebook posts asking about adding further PVE/MMO type elements to the game and got these responses:

This looks a hell of a lot better than what I originally thought it was going to be, going to have to keep an eye on it.

We are so close to getting big sprawling rpgs like Skyrim that allow for multiple players on a small scale in a persistent world. This is what I ‘ve wanted since I first played Morrowind; an rpg where me and a few really close friends can all have our own houses, and we can play whenever we want. Add in the tech that GTA V had when it’d seamlessly switch between the main characters and I’d be stoked. What I mean by that let’s say I created a bard, a mage and a morag tong assassin. if i wanted to switch, i’d press a button and it’d zoom out to the map and then zoom in to that other character and i’d pick up whatever it was they were doing at that time.

Mix in friends playthroughs as well and that would be gaming nirvana for me.

Would be nice if the AI wouldn’t slow to a crawl and stop working the moment 15 players are on the server…

Glad that they are having success with Exiles, pity that AO and AoC stopped getting love a long time ago.

All in all, the planned additions are great and Exiles will probably the closest we get to AoC 2.

If I remember correctly the NPC attacks were planned for AoC guild bases as well.

In many ways Conan Exiles is a missing part of AoC…

Minus the rage inducing combat system.
