The Daily Grind: What were your best MMORPG gaming achievements in 2017?

Before we jump into 2018, let’s take a moment to ruminate on our personal accomplishments in MMO gaming this year.

While I didn’t get around to all of the games that I wanted to play or had enough time to enjoy the ones I did, I feel like it was a pretty solid year all around for me. I went through the Bingo Boffin storyline and Mordor in Lord of the Rings Online, got my fourth level 110 in World of Warcraft, and brought my Secret World Legends character all the way through the game (again). I even got reacquainted with an old favorite MMO — Dungeons and Dragons Online — and collected tons of great stories.

What were your best MMORPG gaming achievements in 2017? Looking back, what are you most proud of doing? What made you the happiest? What game worlds did you visit and what did you do in them?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

Kicking EVE to the curb. Discovering GW2.

I did all the quests and challenges for purple dragonknight favor, in Eveningstar. Disapointed I needed commendations of heroism not valor to upgrade the confluence items. Have to get in on a Fall of Truth raid some how. Might just end up reincarnating my old bard without them.

Hitting End Game hard in SWL without a doubt.

I have SWL on hiatus at the moment but I definitely plan on going back to it. What I’m trying to figure out though is did I give it a rest because I was getting burned out on it, or was it because Tokyo wasn’t as interesting as New England, Egypt, and Transylvania?

Unfortunately i really don’t have much time for single player content between, dungeons, lairs, regional and mega bosses, duo scenarios, raids. I will say KM is probably still my favorite though.

At first i found Tokyo very rewarding with challenge, with higher build not so much, but even content i’m usually with a group, and as enjoyable as the tower is, it was done in a group as well and was mainly to get our wings to add to our tool set for dungeons.

In essence i’m playing a completely different game than most, we strive to perfect our runs, and have effectively become a well oiled machine. So much so when we are down a team member we will pug one up and have on more than one occasion had them stop and say how impressed they are with our team work. Which to us were huge compliments as we don’t see it we just do it and i guess we were unaware.

Clearly we are playing it for different reasons, but I would say I’ve enjoyed all the SWL dungeon pugs I’ve been in; no rude and selfish players voting to kick you from the group for looking at them the wrong way. ;)

My initial reason was for the story, was going to play it solo, and pug runs like yourself, but as you mentioned the players are amazingly friendly and helpful (no A-Holes like in TSW). Next thing you know joined a Cabal and never looked back.

I finally unlocked the entire ability wheel in The Secret World.

…a month later, TSW was terminated and the servers turned to ghost towns. I still haven’t been able to bring myself to make any real progress in SWL after learning that the character I’d played off and on for nearly five years couldn’t be ported over. Not bitter, just sad. Hoping to get excited about some new MMO in 2018!

As much as i love SWL, i feel for you, even the 6/7 months i’ve poured into SWL the thought of that happening, yea, i feel for you.

I hear you man. Although I mostly like SWL, what you just described has to be a major ouch. If it were me I would probably be livid.

Also, as far as new MMO’s in 2018, there’s nothing on the radar scope that I feel very jazzed about at the moment, but I’m hoping I will be blind sided and pleasantly surprised by something.

I finally got my ‘The Explorer’ achievement on Elder Scrolls Online. I’m not too fond of titles, but this one and ‘Master Angler’ have been longtimes goals.

Well I have two achievements I’m proud of this year and they are related to a degree.

First one is not playing WoW all year even though I greatly enjoyed Legion until the alt unfriendliness of 7.1 to 7.1.5 wore me down and I was unable to get all my Alliance and Horde characters to max level before the grind wore me down and drove me to quit last December. Haven’t been back even though I’ve been interested and probably would have except for my second Achievement.

As a lifetime subscriber to LOTRO that has played on and off (mostly off in the last 5-6 years) for 10 years but still bought all of the expansions(I’m nuts sometimes), I just reached level 60 with a character for the first time in the last week!

Been back playing for about the last 3 months and greatly enjoying my time, having my normal issue of which character/class to play with server mergers I now have 27 characters and it’s hard to focus on one(one reason I never reached 60 before now).

Been somewhat effective at just playing 7 or so characters(one of each class and crafting guild) but been playing all to some degree thanks to the daily present from Winter Festival on each character:).

Anyhow just want to say I’ve been loving LOTRO and it’s kept me from returning to WoW. Although once they announce the launch date of WoW I’ll probably go back to finish up Legion:).

I finally got a decent achievement in ESO that I’ll settle for this year since I just started playing, I got a kick ass Costume called the Scarlet Judge.

I’ve got a question for the ESO players, I know the top choice for bleeding edge content for tanks is Dragon Knight, that said I like the spell aesthetics of the Warden and they look like strong tanks as well (they almost remind me of Frost Death Knight tanks from Wrath of the Lich King), are they suitable tanks for Veteran 4 Mans and Normal Trials?

Wardens are second best tanks in the game. So yeah, as a main or an offtank, godspeed.

What made me the most happiest? Finding DK and his crazy old buddies and playing with them. Even if we don’t always game together, we’re chatting it up like crazy and it’s been great. Thanks for a pretty good 2017 :)
