With the lack of fanfare leading up to today, you might have thought that Studio WildCard delayed the launch of ARK’s third expansion, Extinction. Technically you’d be right, but only by hours (instead of weeks or months). Even though it has hit a few snags, Extinction is still slated to release sometime today. The launch trailer, seen below, has already been released. WildCard took to Twitter to inform players that launch was still happening despite no ETA.
Hey Survivors, we know you're all very excited about the Extinction release! We want to let you know that we're running into some last minute snags, but we are still on track to launch Extinction today. We will update you with an ETA as soon as possible.

If you aren’t sure you want to jump in and play, or if it is worth the money, you’ve got a few options this week. One, ARK itself is free to play right now and until November 11th. There’s also an Extinction launch trailer below to catch a glimpse at what to expect. You can also watch OPTV this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. EST for a tour of live expansion gameplay. Then if you do want to play, there are sales happening.
For those who were waiting to buy their copy of the expansion hoping for a sale, your patience paid off. Extinction — along with all the versions of ARK — are on sale through November 13th thanks to a mid-week Steam sale. ARK itself is 60% off at $20.00, and the Explorer’s Edition bundle (which includes the base game and season pass of all three expansions) is 51% off at $46.78. If you already have the base game Survival Evolved or would rather by expansions piecemeal, the prices are as follows:
- Extinction: $29.24 (35% off)
- Aberration: $9.99 (50% off)
- Scorched Earth: $8.00 (60% off)
- Season Pass (all three): $29.24 (35% off)
The Center and Ragnarok maps and the Primitive+ total conversion are included for free with the purchase of ARK: Survival Evolved.
